“Gardening the Garden State” is a grant funded project, at Rutgers University, which partners with local community gardens and organizations within the city of New Brunswick. My involvement in the study began the summer of 2012 with preliminary observations and research on various gardens throughout the state. During the summer of 2013, as an intern on the project, working on site designs for Shiloh and Esperanza community gardens.
The Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA) is non-profit environmental advocacy and education organization, concentrating on the protection of the natural and historic resources located in the Pinelands National Reserve. As a volunteer, I assisted in compiling a database of stakeholders as well as developing a catalogue of photographs of native plants and significant sites within the Pine Barrens.
New Jersey Peer Involvement Group (NJPIRG) is student run non-profit organization. Across Rutgers University, campus based chapters work to promote student engagement by means of campaigns addressing variety of social issues. While working with N.J.P.I.R.G., I was responsible for directing a board of environmentally based organizations affiliated with the School of Environmental and Biological Science (SEBS) and organizing campus events.
My first internship was with the Sierra Club, the oldest and most influential environmental organization in the nation. Working with the group sparked my interest in my desire to pursue a career that would enable me to inform others of the significance of environmental activism. Much of my work with the Green Jobs Campaign, dealt with communicating with business owners, and local residents, about policies regarding clean energy solutions.
